Vitebsk Regional Ministry of Emergency Situations: Rossony District suffered the most from the thunderstorm front
Strong winds, reaching 16 m/s, damaged the roofs of residential buildings, schools, and kindergartens, and felled trees in 6 settlements in the Polotsk, Rossony, Sennno, and Glubokoye districts.
"In the Rossony district, the wind damaged the roofs of 27 residential buildings, 10 socio-cultural facilities (hospitals, schools, kindergartens, etc.), and four utility buildings. Trees were felled. A woman who was hit by a fallen tree was taken to the hospital with injuries," said Andrey Gavrilenko.
He added that a MTS communication tower fell in Rossony. Residents of the district were left without mobile communication. The tower was reinstalled overnight, and communication was restored.
Emergency Situations Ministry workers worked through the night to eliminate the consequences of the disaster. In particular, they removed roofing elements hanging over building entrances to prevent them from collapsing.
In each district where the squally wind caused damage, emergency crews, emergency commissions, including situation headquarters, promptly responded and took urgent measures to eliminate the consequences. A total of 40 units of Emergency Situations Ministry equipment and over 150 personnel were involved in the emergency work. Utility workers, gas workers, power engineers, and foresters assisted the rescuers in repairing the damage.
10 settlements in the Rossony, Glubokoye, and Polotsk districts remain without power. Rescuers and relevant district services continue restoration work.
