Vitebsk region managed to significantly reduce fuel consumption during spring field work

The Vitebsk region is conducting the current sowing campaign with a significant reduction in fuel consumption. This was announced to journalists by the Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Nikolai Sherstnev, after participating in the republican subbotnik at the reconstruction of the "Proryv" memorial complex in the Ushachi district.

Giving a general assessment of the spring field work, the governor emphasized that the sowing campaign is proceeding in an organized manner and without major problems. Despite the vagaries of the weather (sharp cooling and rains), work is being carried out everywhere.

"Due to soil over-moistening, equipment cannot pass everywhere. We are finding spots in the fields and working selectively. If we compare with the same period last year, we are moving step by step, day by day with the 2015 level in terms of pace. This speaks volumes. And it primarily testifies to the mobilization of forces, good labor organization, and conscientious preparation. Moreover, we are working economically and, with the same pace, have significantly reduced fuel consumption. For example, last year our daily consumption was about 600 tons. While performing the same amount of work, we now consume 350-400, a maximum of 450 tons per day. And the quality of work is better," said the governor.

Nikolai Sherstnev noted that this spring, the region's agrarians were very pleased with the winter crops. "I don't remember winter crops in such good condition, with practically no losses," he stated. The Chairman of the Regional Executive Committee noted that on these important days for farmers, he visits farms almost daily. "As an experienced agronomist, I have set myself the task this year to complete the complex of spring field work in the shortest possible time, which is very important for the Vitebsk region, and with high quality. I am orienting the heads of districts and our agronomic service to work maximally on plant protection, so that there are no weeds in the fields, the plants are healthy and can receive maximum nutrients," said Nikolai Sherstnev. This year, the region plans to achieve a harvest no lower than last year's level.
