The Vitebsk method of cancer treatment has been adopted in Munich

Витебскую методику лечения рака взяли на вооружение в Мюнхене

Surgeons from the Vitebsk Regional Clinical Specialized Center and the Regional Oncology Center, under the leadership of Professor Yuri Gain, have jointly developed a new method for treating complicated colorectal cancer with intestinal obstruction.

This disease is diagnosed annually in dozens of patients who previously became disabled. Thanks to the new technology implemented in Vitebsk, the treatment period for patients is significantly reduced, and their quality of life is improved.

The know-how is that the tumor damaging the intestine is excised using a laser beam. This eliminates stenosis and restores patency. After a few days, once the patient's condition normalizes, a radical surgery to remove the tumor can be performed without life-threatening risks to the patient. If the latter is impossible or impractical, a special stent, also developed by Vitebsk medics in collaboration with scientists from the Institute of Acoustics, is installed.

Valery Denisenko, Chief Physician of the Regional Clinical Specialized Center and Associate Professor of the Department of General Surgery at VGMU, says:

– Together with oncologists, we have already operated on over 100 patients. We have presented our method at international scientific congresses and European conferences. Doctors from leading medical clinics worldwide have shown interest in the new development, and recently we received a message from our German colleagues. They have decided to implement our method on a permanent basis at the Munich Central University Clinic.
Yuri Derkach, Head of the Healthcare Department of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, considers such popularity well-deserved. The leading medical institutions of the region have a strong scientific and practical potential and successfully utilize it. The professionalism of doctors allows them to provide about 98 percent of all necessary medical care locally, without referring patients to republican clinics and centers.

Today, kidney and aorta transplant surgeries are already streamlined in Vitebsk, and transplantation of almost any organ is possible. Over 80 practicing physicians also teach concurrently.

in the medical university, and they train young innovators who will come to the operating rooms tomorrow.
