Vyacheslav Durnov congratulated Catholics and the Bishop of Vitebsk on the Resurrection of Christ

Вячеслав Дурнов поздравил католиков и епископа Витебского с Воскресением Христовым
Christians observing the Gregorian calendar celebrate Easter. In the morning, Deputy Chairman of the Regional Executive Committee Vyacheslav Durnov congratulated believers and Bishop Oleg Butkevich of Vitebsk personally on the Resurrection of Christ, visiting the Cathedral of the Divine Mercy in Vitebsk.

Presenting a bouquet of white roses, the representative of the authorities thanked the head of the diocese for his service, wished him health and success in all good endeavors.

– It is always a pleasure to congratulate people on a holiday, and on such a great one as Easter, it is doubly so. A large number of Catholics live in the Vitebsk region. All confessions live peacefully together in our country. This is an example to other states of how people of different faiths work for creation, for making the world a better place. And this is directly related to the commandments that both Catholics and Orthodox Christians honor. If we live by these commandments, then everything will be fine with us, – noted Vyacheslav Durnov.

The head of the Vitebsk Catholic Diocese emphasized that Easter is the most important holiday for the Christian world.
– Our faith in the victory over sin and death, our faith in eternal life, is built on the Resurrection of Christ. We celebrate this holiday at different times than the Orthodox, but its essence remains unchanged, and all believers deeply experience the Bright Resurrection of Christ, opening their hearts to the values that help live by the principles of love, mercy, and forgiveness. This is important for the whole world today, – said Oleg Butkevich.

This year, the Vitebsk Catholic Diocese celebrates the 25th anniversary of its establishment. As the bishop noted, it is symbolic that the broadcast of the festive divine service on television was conducted from the new church in the Bilevo microdistrict. This is a sign that the diocese is developing, and much has been done in recent years.

– A lot is being done here not only in a spiritual sense. The church takes an active part in public life, holds events aimed at educating youth and children, and helping people in need, – explained the head of the diocese.
Oleg Butkevich also added that this year the activities of the Vitebsk Diocese will be presented at a special venue at the "Slavianski Bazaar in Vitebsk".
