Vladimir Terentyev: "The date of the celebration of the National Unity Day is chosen fairly and justifiably"
At the VI All-Belarusian People's Assembly, it was proposed to establish the Day of National Unity, and two dates were discussed: September 17 and November 14. A vote immediately began, and the majority spoke in favor of September 17.
In my opinion, the date is chosen fairly and justifiably. It is truly symbolic – as a result of the Red Army's Liberation Campaign into Western Belarus, Eastern and Western Belarusians were reunited into one nation.
I am impressed by the symbolic example in Glubokoye, where on September 17 Square, there is a Catholic church on one side and an Orthodox church on the other, and the square unites them.
This new state holiday should remind us who we are and where we come from, instill pride in our people, who, through all the trials and difficult war years, have carried the understanding that Belarusians are a united people!
