The authorities should not shy away from the Internet - V. Makei

March 19, Minsk / Vladimir Matveev - BELTA /. The government should not shy away from the Internet. This was stated today at the republican seminar-meeting "The System of Ideological Work in the Republic of Belarus: Current State and Development Prospects" by the Head of the Belarus President Administration, Vladimir Makei, as reported by a BELTA correspondent. "While our people of various age groups actively use the network, the government shies away from the Internet," Vladimir Makei said. According to him, today the Internet is a huge variety of phenomena, from popular social networks to personal blogs and television. It is the greatest blessing, but at the same time a threat of our time. "Government bodies have so far missed the initiative in the internet space. However, I am confident that in the next year or two, we will rectify the situation. The websites of many of our government bodies, I dare say, are a real disgrace," the head of the presidential administration noted. Vladimir Makei emphasized that the website of any state organization should be a means of constant communication with the population. All information and explanations necessary for citizens should be constantly presented on the website, in a convenient and understandable form. Virtual reception rooms should become a common phenomenon, not a rare know-how. Even today, a gradual transition to the implementation of administrative procedures based on the e-government principle should begin. This requires not only the technical part but also the readiness of the authorities themselves. The Head of Administration also noted that work on the Internet should not be limited to official websites. It is necessary to use new technologies 100%, not lagging behind ideological opponents in this matter. -0-
