Foreign trade turnover of Vitebsk region with China increased by 39% in 5 months

July 10, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. Foreign trade turnover of the Vitebsk region with the People's Republic of China for the first five months of the current year increased by 39% compared to the same period last year. This was announced by Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee Alexander Kosinets today at a meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the PRC to Belarus Lu Guicheng, BELTA correspondent reports. Foreign trade turnover amounted to $47.3 million, including exports - $14.7 million, or 212% compared to the same period in 2009. The basis of exports is petrochemical products. The Vitebsk region supplies optical instruments, flax fiber, casein, and alcoholic beverages to China. According to Alexander Kosinets, the Vitebsk region and the PRC have good potential for the development of economic ties. The transition from prepayment to documentary letter of credit settlement would largely contribute to this. So far, no enterprises with Chinese capital have been registered in the region, although the "Vitebsk" free economic zone offers broad opportunities for foreign investors. Chinese Ambassador Lu Guicheng expressed confidence that business contacts between entrepreneurs will develop. -0-
