The water route will connect Vitebsk and Daugavpils

September 22, Tolochin District / Andrei Asfura - BELTA /. A water transboundary route will connect Vitebsk and Daugavpils. Olga Prokhorova, an expert of the "Bella Dvina" project, told a BELTA correspondent. According to her, the water route will run along the Western Dvina: it will start in Vitebsk, pass through Polotsk and end in the Latvian city of Daugavpils. The route is being created within the framework of the Belarusian-Latvian project "Bella Dvina", and its pilot version is planned to be tested as early as July 2010. The length of the route will be over 250 km. It will be possible to cover the distance by kayaks, and it will take at least 5 days to reach the final destination. The project expert emphasized that tourist campsites will be available for tourists along the Western Dvina: "any traveler tired of long journeys will be able to stop for a rest by paddling to the shore." A simplified border crossing system is planned to be introduced specifically for tourists who will be conquering the excursion route by kayaks. However, for now, these plans are only at the discussion stage. -0-
