A peatland safety volunteer center will be established in the Liozno district

A volunteer safety center will soon appear in the agro-town of Kovali, Liozno district – for the protection and preservation of the animal and plant world of peat bogs.

This month, it is planned to purchase fire and rescue equipment and gear for more than 150 million rubles. In the second quarter of the current year, an information and game playground will be equipped for training the population in the basics of safe living and fire prevention in ecosystems. A special initiative group is being formed to conduct classes.

This became possible thanks to winning the republican competition of local initiatives, held in 2015 within the framework of the international technical assistance project "Support for Local Development in the Republic of Belarus". The project, under the auspices of the Ministry of Economy, is implemented by the UN Development Programme and financed by the European Union. The application for the grant was developed by the Liozno Regional Department for Emergency Situations, and the regional organizational structure of the Belarusian Voluntary Fire Society acted as the applicant. The creation of the volunteer safety center will be facilitated bypartnership of the district executive committee, Veleshkovichi village executive committee, the district organization of BRSM and OJSC "Danukalova-Agro". As reported by the head of the district department for emergency situations Vitaly Chaikin, a total of 18 thousand dollars are allocated for these purposes.
