The Belarusian Red Cross volunteer movement in the Vitebsk region has grown from several dozen to 4,000 people in a year
May 12, Vitebsk / Olga Bogacheva - BELTA /. The volunteer movement of the Vitebsk regional organization of the Red Cross has grown from several dozen to 4,000 people over the year, the organization's chairperson Galina Zhelanova informed at a press conference today, BELTA correspondent reports.
The development of the movement is associated with extensive informational work about the organization's activities, established among the population, as well as the generosity of people who are not indifferent to the problems of those around them and are ready to help when needed, Galina Zhelanova noted. The role of youth, whose numbers constantly replenish the organization's ranks, is also noteworthy in this regard. Young people readily help lonely elderly citizens, conduct various campaigns in support of children from orphanages and shelters, and take an active part in the fight against the spread of HIV/AIDS. The youth campaign of the organization's activists to collect gifts for orphans, timed to coincide with Valentine's Day, received wide coverage and response from the public.
In the near future, the "Rainbow of Good Deeds" campaign dedicated to the 65th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus; "Scarlet Ribbon" for International Donor Day; "Care," "Lonely Old Age," "Week Without Loneliness," aimed at the elderly and disabled, will take place. In August, it is planned to hold a mini-marathon with wheelchair users. Other interesting projects are also being prepared. -0-
