October 8, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. The restoration of the roof torn off by the wind has begun in Polotsk, the director of the Capital Construction Department of the Polotsk City Executive Committee, Galina Belskaya, told a BELTA correspondent. A headquarters for eliminating the consequences of the natural disaster has been created by the order of the city executive committee. The territory adjacent to the cultural monument has been cleared of the remnants of the torn-off roof. Polotsk builders, employees of housing and communal services, and workers of the National Museum-Reserve, which includes St. Sophia Cathedral, were involved in the work. The damaged parts of the roof have already been covered with film to protect the interior decoration of the temple and its unique organ. Galina Belskaya recalled that the reconstruction of St. Sophia Cathedral, including the roof, has been underway for several years. According to her, the repaired supporting structures withstood the strong wind.
