The demand for direct lines testifies to the authority of the regional government
The direct lines of the regional executive committee are in demand among the population, which indicates the authority of the regional government. This opinion was shared with a BELTA correspondent following a telephone dialogue with the region's residents by Vladimir Terentyev, Deputy Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee.
"For three hours on duty, the phone rang non-stop. As it turns out during the conversations, people call here because, unfortunately, they do not always trust the local authorities, and the regional executive committee is, if not the last resort, then at least an authoritative instance that solves problems," stated Vladimir Terentyev. He emphasized that now it is less common to identify pressing issues; residents of the region primarily call for assistance in resolving personal problems, seeking advice, clarification, or guidance.
More than 30 calls were received during the direct telephone line with the Deputy Chairman of the Regional Executive Committee, who oversees the social sphere. The majority of the appeals concerned housing and communal services issues. People asked for assistance in connecting houses to the water supply and power lines, spoke about problems in eliminating accidents in water supply networks, and reported on the inaction of local authorities and operating organizations (a broken pump on Friday left an entire village without water, and problem-solving will only begin on Monday). Questions were raised about creating a barrier-free environment for the vulnerable and people with disabilities, lighting of yard areas and areas near entrances, etc.
In addition, land and environmental protection issues were raised during the direct line, as well as the creation of conditions for the development of private initiative in rural areas and the provision of quality mobile communication to remote villages. Citizens asked to be registered for a personal appointment, expressed indignation about the lack of hot meals in one of the Vitebsk colleges, spoke about non-payment of child benefits and salaries, requested assistance in employment, complained about the indifference of enterprise managers to the fate of employees and their families, asked to consider the possibility of assigning a social worker for constant care and household assistance to elderly spouses, inquired about plans for the construction of kindergartens in new residential microdistricts, and requested an increase in the number of morning buses to make it easier to get to kindergartens in the central microdistricts of the regional center with children, etc.
Vladimir Terentyev provided explanations, promised to deal with problematic situations and help citizens solve life problems. All issues have been taken under control.
