An agricultural enterprise in the Vitebsk region plans to revive horse breeding

Возродить коневодство планирует сельхозпредприятие в Витебском районе
Such ambitious goals are set by the young head of the agricultural enterprise OJSC "Vozrozhdenie" Oleg Lazovsky. However, he admits that circumstances forced him to launch a large-scale, and let's be honest, risky project: it was necessary to somehow resolve the fate of half-wild mongrel horses that were listed in the farm.

– I felt sorry for the animals that were left to themselves. At one time, we tried to engage in horse breeding, and since then, a herd has remained, albeit without stallions. We had to get rid of old and sick individuals, so now four horses and two foals live in Bolshiye Letzy. Stalls have been built for all of them, and a special enclosure for walking has been equipped near the farm: a plot of land has been allocated, bushes have been cleared there, and it has been fenced. Next year, we plan to expand it, we are gradually taming the animals, teaching them to walk in harness, – says the head.

Oleg Lazovsky took over "Vozrozhdenie" two years ago; before that, he worked here as a veterinarian. He says that so far he has nothing special to boast about as the head of the agricultural enterprise: he has not yet made the farm a leader. However, OJSC "Vozrozhdenie" has stably established itself among the strong middle-rankers.

Responsibility, an indifferent, owner-like approach to business, and, most importantly, Oleg Lazovsky's ability to see development prospects are noted at the district leadership level. As a specific example, one can take at least his decision on the uncertain situation with the horses. The head of "Vozrozhdenie" has many ideas: from full-fledged horse breeding to organizing excursions, hippotherapy sessions, and renting horses for mass rides.

In addition, they do not exclude the possibility of arranging a stable, where any large odd-toed ungulate animals can stay and receive proper care and nutrition, a kind of hotel for them.

Oleg Lazovsky is not yet ready to predict how events will unfold in the future.

is taken, especially since the manager has enough other concerns: in "Vozrozhdenie" there are over a thousand head of dairy cattle.

– It is no secret that milk, if it is of good quality, brings the main profit today. You can earn good money on this. This year, we have no problems with feed; we have prepared 27 centners of feed units per head of dry matter plus concentrates. We supply 90% of milk as "extra" grade, – shares the manager.

Oleg Lazovsky adds that horses are just a hobby for him for now; he always has a pack or two of refined sugar in his car for them. But, perhaps, the pupils of the Velikolyetchansky boarding school are the happiest about the appearance of the mini-horse farm in "Vozrozhdenie".

During their walks, the boys and girls come to see and pet the animals, and have even managed to give them nicknames. The children are also generous with treats for their favorites: they brought them apples from the garden all autumn, and now they treat them to bread. But the main dream of the boarding school pupils is to ride with the wind. And it can well come true: the manager of the agricultural enterprise said that the farm has sleds, they need to be repaired, and the horses need to be trained to pull a harness.
