March 17, Vitebsk / Sergei Kochetov - BELTA /. For the first time, the Vitebsk Art Museum will feature works by more than fifty artists at the exhibition "Artists of Vitebsk of the late XX - early XXI centuries," which will open on March 18. This was reported to a BELTA correspondent by the museum administration.
In 2011, it will be 115 years since the founding of Yudel Pen's art studio in Vitebsk, which laid the foundation for the Vitebsk Art School. In tribute to the great Belarusian artist, recognized Vitebsk masters and young artists have united and presented more than a hundred of their works created in the 21st century. The exhibition occupies the entire third floor of the art museum, which has become a vast creative space, accumulating the best creative potential of the modern Vitebsk Art School.
The main goal of the exhibition, organized on the initiative of the chairman of the regional executive committee Alexander Kosinets, is to demonstrate the achievements of the modern period and the creative development path of the Vitebsk Art School, which remains one of the brightest phenomena of Belarusian culture today.
At the beginning of the 20th century, Vitebsk became one of the world's largest laboratories for contemporary art, architecture, and design. The city entered history as one of the centers of the modern avant-garde, and the concepts of "Vitebsk Art School" and "Vitebsk Renaissance" continue to attract researchers from all over the world to this day. Over the years, the public organization of artists in the Vitebsk region has also developed, which was founded by 3 people. Today, the regional organization of the Belarusian Union of Artists unites more than 100 masters who creatively and skillfully represent such art forms as painting, graphics, sculpture, and decorative and applied arts. -0-
