The XI European Cup in intellectual games among student teams was held for the first time in Vitebsk

Впервые в Витебске прошел XI Кубок Европы по интеллектуальным играм среди студенческих команд

As Viktor Glushin, Chief Specialist of the Department of Ideological Work, Culture and Youth Affairs of the Vitebsk City Executive Committee, stated, the European Cup traditionally took place in Peterhof. However, this time the organizers decided to hold the tournament in a different location and chose Vitebsk as the battleground for minds, as the city on the Dvina has considerable experience in hosting similar events. The venue for the competition of young intellectuals was provided by the Vitebsk branch of the Belarusian Academy of Communications, where for three days, participants of the student tournament in the sports versions of "What? Where? When?", "Brain Ring", "Erudite Quartet" and "Own Game" proved that the Olympic motto "Faster, Higher, Stronger!" can be applied not only to athletes demonstrating the abilities of their trained bodies to the public, but also to those who compete with their minds.

Twenty-four teams demonstrated speed of thought, an outstanding level of erudition, and a deep reserve of knowledge. Winners of national tours from Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, Latvia, Estonia, and Armenia clashed for the championship title in each discipline. Our country was represented by six teams – from Minsk, Mogilev, and Brest. We won't keep you in suspense and will immediately announce that the best result for Belarus was third place for the team "Doblesnye Urykha" in "Erudite Quartet". In "What? Where? When?", the team "Markasu Tretsyamu" from Moscow took first place. By the way, this sextet includes participants from Belarus, so the victory of the Russians is partly due to the intellectual potential of our compatriots as well. The winner of "Brain Ring" was the Moscow team "Pita". In the individual competition "Own Game", Denis Galiakberov ("Pita") won.
