For the first time, a military unit of the internal troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Belarus received a spiritual banner - a banner. This honor was awarded to military unit 5530, which is stationed in Polotsk, reports a BELTA correspondent from the solemn ceremony. "The Church and the military have interacted at all times. I want to express my gratitude to the Belarusian Orthodox Church for the high assessment of the activities of the internal troops and assure you that we will continue to worthily fulfill the tasks set before us," said the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Belarus - Commander of the Internal Troops, Major General Valery Gaydukevich. The banner with the image of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God will now accompany the soldiers in the most significant events, for example, during the taking of the oath, on holidays and memorable dates. Its main purpose is the spiritual support of the military personnel. The unification of efforts in the moral and patriotic education of the defenders of the Fatherland was largely facilitated by the cooperation agreement between the internal troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Belarus and the Belarusian Orthodox Church, concluded in May 1998. Spiritual and secular authorities, as well as units and formations of the Polotsk garrison, took part in the solemn ceremony in Polotsk. Two of them stood under their spiritual banners - a border guard unit and a detachment of Polotsk cadets. -0-
