All districts of the Vitebsk region have started fodder harvesting
Machinery is being widely tested in the farms, pastures are being mown, and the green mass is being used for hay harvesting. High-nutrient fodder in stretch film has also begun to be harvested, and the pace of haylage and silage harvesting is picking up. "The machinery is, in principle, ready and supplied with fuel, the grass stand is normal, so there is confidence that we will cope with the task," stated Boris Efremov.
In total, this season, the Vitebsk region is to harvest about 2 million tons of haylage and 2 million tons of silage. The first mowing of grasses is planned to be carried out on an area of 210 thousand hectares, harvesting about 360 thousand tons of fodder units.
In addition, farmers in the northern region continue to sow annual grasses (millet, proso), which is planned to be completed in the second decade of June. As they are good predecessors for winter crops, it is planned to use these lands for winter sowing afterwards, explained Boris Efremov. By the end of this week, several districts are to finish sowing corn, eliminating the lag caused by weather conditions.
