The second rental building in Vitebsk welcomes new residents

Vitebsk's second rental house welcomes new residents: today they will be solemnly presented with apartment keys, as reported by the Vitebsk City Executive Committee.

The multi-story brick building at 15 Bogatyreva Street was constructed by the enterprise "Vitebskobselstroy" by order of the Capital Construction Department in almost a year and a half. "The commissioning took place at the end of March, and we received about 700 applications from candidates. As a result, the apartments were distributed as follows: 87 individuals in need of improved housing conditions, 11 people relocated from uninhabitable houses, and 22 citizens entitled to priority access to social housing, i.e., for the period of employment," noted Marina Areshchenko, Head of the Housing Policy Department of the City Executive Committee. She emphasized that among the applicants registered as in need of housing, there were many who had been on the waiting list for 10 or even 20 years and could not afford construction as they were not eligible for preferential loans. Thus, rental housing is the best alternative for them. The lease agreement is concluded for 5 years, and for so-called priority recipients – for the period of employment. For them, a reduced coefficient is applied to the rental fee, which decreases the cost of housing use by 10 times.

"If residents comply with the terms of use and payment, after 5 years the contract can be renewed for a new term. Conversely, if violated, it can be terminated prematurely. But judging by the first rental house, which was commissioned nearby in 2014, residents cherish their apartments, and no one has been evicted yet. By the way, there were even more applications for that house – almost 900. And out of 120 apartments, 102 were allocated to those in need of improved housing conditions," added Marina Areshchenko. She assured that this segment of the housing stock will continue to develop in the future.
