The second stage of the CIS exercise "Cyber-Anti-Terror-2016" has begun in Novolukoml
Cyberterrorism, unlike any other form of terrorism, is transnational in nature. This was stated yesterday by the Chairman of the State Security Committee of Belarus, Valery Vakulchik, during a meeting of the leadership of anti-terrorism units of the security agencies and special services of the CIS member states.
"Today, the world is closely facing a new type of global terrorist threat – cyberterrorism. The use of digital technologies for terrorist purposes, along with the boundless possibilities of the internet, forces us to be ready to adequately respond to these challenges. Cyberterrorism, unlike any other form of terrorism, is transnational in nature," said Valery Vakulchik.
According to him, a particular important facility can be attacked from any point on the planet. This significantly complicates the work of identifying and preventing such crimes and requires special services to develop new joint approaches to suppress this type of terrorist activity.
Yesterday, the second stage of the CIS anti-terrorism exercise "Cyber-Antiterror-2016" began in Novolukoml. During this stage, issues of identifying and localizing the consequences of a cyberattack on the control system of a critical infrastructure facility, as well as the search and detention of criminals using specialized hardware and software, are being practiced for the first time. "The key moment in this is the organization of interaction between the subjects of combating terrorism in our countries. Summarizing the results of the exercise will allow us to develop practical recommendations for more effective use of this potential in countering international terrorism," noted the head of the KGB.
