It is necessary to nominate people capable of working in the interests of voters as candidates for deputies - N. Lozovik
February 16, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA/. When nominating candidates for deputies, the ability of these people to work for the benefit of the population of their constituency should come to the forefront. This point of view was expressed today to journalists by the Secretary of the Central Commission for Elections and Referendums, Nikolai Lozovik. He is taking part in a seminar-meeting with the chairmen and secretaries of territorial and district election commissions, heads of departments for organizational, personnel and ideological work of district and city executive committees of the Vitebsk region, BELTA correspondent reports.
The Secretary of the Central Election Commission noted the increased activity of parties in the current election campaign, but remarked that "upon detailed analysis, it turns out that when nominating representatives to commissions, individual political parties were concerned about statistics, trying to nominate as many of their representatives as possible, without thinking about how capable these people are of working in commissions based on their abilities." Nikolai Lozovik believes that it is necessary to nominate worthy people as candidates for deputies, capable of working in the interests of their voters.
Nikolai Lozovik recalled that significant changes have been made to the Electoral Code, which concern all stages of the election campaign. In particular, the formation of election commissions, the nomination of candidates for deputies, for example, by political parties, is regulated in a new way. The procedure for campaign meetings and rallies, which are now held on a notification basis, has been simplified. The voting procedure has not changed, but the requirements for counting votes have become stricter. Now it is necessary to count ballots separately for early voting, voting at home, and on election day, and enter them separately into the protocol. "Overall, the changes in electoral legislation have simplified the procedure for nominating a candidate, registering an initiative group, which allows for a wider range of candidates to be nominated, and therefore, voters will have a choice," stated Nikolai Lozovik.-0-
