A bumper harvest has allowed the Vitebsk region to export grain for the first time
The high harvest allowed the Vitebsk region to export grain for the first time. The head of the region noted that this year exemplary fields in terms of technology compliance were created in every farm.
"Having achieved good results, the agrarians of the northern region of the country have overcome a psychological barrier, broken a stereotype, and become convinced that high yields can be obtained on our lands, in our conditions," said the governor. "Grain has become an export commodity for the region. This year's gross harvest allowed it to be used not only for animal husbandry. Grain is becoming a profitable item, we have received the right to sell 100 thousand tons outside the republic for the first time. Contracts have already been concluded, and shipments are underway," Nikolai Sherstnev reported. He emphasized that the region has set a course for intensive agriculture. The increase in crop production is not due to the expansion of the grain acreage, but due to strict adherence to technological requirements at all stages of cultivation, the introduction of high-yielding varieties and new progressive technologies. According to the harvest results, the gross grain yield in the agricultural organizations of the region was 1 million 370 thousand tons with a yield of 36.6 centners per hectare (about 1 million 440 thousand tons were threshed in all categories of farms). The region's cohort of thousand-ton combine harvester crews includes 524 crews. A solemn award ceremony for the winners of the regional competition for grain harvesting is currently taking place in Tolochin, which will be followed by a concert. Chairman of the House of Representatives Vladimir Andreichenko, Chairman of the State Control Committee Leonid Anfimov, Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Vladimir Gusakov, heads and representatives of many ministries, delegations from the Pskov and Mogilev regions, and labor veterans are present as honored guests at the celebration.
