A high-tech inpatient facility is planned to be created at the Vitebsk Medical University clinic
Anatoly Shchastny noted that during the meeting, the head of state answered many questions discussed among medical professionals. It is important that the issue of university clinics was raised, where education, treatment, and scientific work can be consolidated. "Today we have what we call the VSMU clinic – it is more of a base engaged in self-supporting activities. It has a plastic surgery department, a diagnostic department, cosmetology, dentistry – various fields exist. Experienced university faculty provide consultations. In the future, we want to reconstruct and modernize this clinic, subsequently creating a powerful high-tech hospital. Today, during the meeting, we realized that our thoughts are moving in the right direction and this project will happen," said the rector.
He called the issue of exporting educational services relevant. "We are developing this area. And not only because it brings considerable financial income and allows us to strengthen the material and technical base, to teach, to issue grants to students and staff. The huge image component is also important here – both for the university and for the country. In our university, the vector of export services is multifaceted. About 50% of the faculty members know English, and they have higher salaries, so we motivate other teachers and students to learn the language," noted Anatoly Shchastny.
Vitebsk State Medical University is training more than 1.3 thousand students from almost 40 countries. "Large communities have already formed among them. Moreover, we try to prepare our foreign students in our preparatory departments, which study according to Belarusian textbooks and programs, but in their own countries. There are preparatory departments where young people take exams to understand whether they will be students of VSmu or not," the rector said.
