An exhibition of Belarusian towels has been organized for the first time in the Vitebsk region
December 7, Vitebsk / Olga Bogacheva - BELTA /. An exhibition of Belarusian rushnyks (embroidered towels) has been organized for the first time in the Vitebsk region. It opened at the Orsha Ethnographic Museum "Mlyn," the cultural institution informed a BELTA correspondent.
The exhibition, prepared from the funds of the Museum Complex of History and Culture of the Orsha Region, features over 90 exhibits collected by museum staff during ethnographic expeditions across the territory of the former Orsha district in 1992-2004. The oldest rushnyk presented dates back to 1890, and the youngest is from the post-war period of the second half of the 20th century.
At the exhibition, the rushnyks are divided into thematic blocks. They reflect the festive and family rituals of our ancestors, are dedicated to funeral and wedding themes, agriculture, and the theme of women's destiny. Visitors to the exhibition will be able to appreciate not only the skill of the embroiderers but also to independently "read" the information embedded in the ancient symbols. For this purpose, special materials are placed next to the exhibits.
The exhibition will run until January 31, after which it will be displayed at the Lepel House of Crafts. -0-
