An exhibition of photographic works by educators from the Department of Photography at the University of Arts in Poznań, titled "The Visible - The Unspoken," has opened at the Vitebsk Regional Museum of Local Lore. It is presented by the Polish Institute in Minsk.
It should be noted that the Department of Photography at the University of Arts in Poznań was established in 1919, and it was one of the few, if not the only, institutions in Europe where artistic photography was taught as an independent art form.
The exhibition features "pure" photographs, without the use of Photoshop. The authors – 9 teachers from the Poznań University – play with the forms, colors, sizes, and structures of their works. The drawing of lines is ambiguous, one element flows into another, creating a fragmented space. Each of the works is not just a bright, eye-catching image; many photographs are journalistic, conveying some issue of modern society, whether it be plague or the issue of trust in mass media.
Opinions were divided right at the opening of the exhibition. Some Vitebsk art connoisseurs considered the photographs to be high-class, while others saw them as merely a decent addition to the interior. However, to understand the authors' intentions and to give your own assessment of the works, it is worth familiarizing yourself with the exhibition "The Visible - The Unspoken" independently.
