The exhibition "When Night Scares the Day" by Sean Hanrahan will be held in Vitebsk

Выставка «Калі ноч палохае дзень» Шона Ханрахана пройдет в Витебске

On August 28 at 5:00 PM, the Vitebsk Center for Contemporary Art will host the opening of an exhibition by artist Sean Hanrahan from Ireland.

The series of 6 works is executed in silkscreen printing, one of the artistic printing methods. The initial idea for creating the series was to comprehend the common cultural roots of Belarus and Ireland, which led the artist to develop the theme of personal associations, perceptions, and memories, represented through the themes of plants, forests, and the transitional states of night and day.

The exhibition of the Irish artist in Belarus is an opportunity to present Ireland as a country that is of growing interest in Belarus, but about whose real life we know so little.

Artistic printing (including etching, linocut, silkscreen, etc.) combines some of the most traditional, yet modern visual means, integrating creative and technological processes.

In particular, many works by Andy Warhol were created using the silkscreen technique. Printing techniques were widely used in the 1920s-30s by artists of the Vitebsk School (Lissitzky, Yudovin, etc.). Subsequently, Vitebsk printing workshops were closed, and currently, artistic printing is used relatively rarely in Belarus.

The exhibition will run from August 28 to September 14, 2014.
