The exhibition of the Batka Minay Museum in Vitebsk is dedicated to the results of research on the partisan movement
December 27, Vitebsk / Sergey Kochetov - BELTA /. The Vitebsk Regional Museum of Hero of the Soviet Union Minay Shmyrev (partisan pseudonym Batka Minay) will present unique documents and materials on the partisan movement at the exhibition "New Acquisitions of 2009-2010", which will open on December 28. This was reported to a BELTA correspondent by the director of the museum institution, Irina Shishkova.
The exhibition project is conceived as a kind of creative report of the museum on its collection work over the past two years, as well as a presentation of the results of scientific expeditions by museum staff to the places of military glory of the participants of the partisan movement. Some of the exhibits were discovered during the landscaping work of the museum's park territory this year. In total, the exhibition will feature more than 50 items.
Museum visitors will be able to get acquainted with materials about the honorary citizen of Vitebsk Dobrin Dimitrov, which became available to Vitebsk researchers thanks to the Belarusian diplomatic mission in Bulgaria. Bulgarian Dobrin Dimitrov was awarded the honorary title in 1988 for his courage and heroism in the fight against the German-fascist invaders on the territory of Vitebsk region and his active participation in the patriotic education of youth. During the war, he was the commissar of a special reconnaissance and sabotage group of the First Belarusian partisan brigade led by Batka Minay. The exhibition will feature photographs and copies of personal documents telling about the combat path of Dobrin Dimitrov and his post-war activities.
Relatives of partisans provide great assistance to museum staff. Thanks to their support and active civic position, the museum's collections are constantly replenished with valuable documents and personal items of participants in the partisan movement. For example, over the past two years, the museum has acquired materials about the honorary citizen of Vitebsk Vera Kulagina, who led one of the groups of Vitebsk underground fighters during the war, as well as documents about Vasily Azeushev, Semyon Zarenda, and Olga Veliseichik. These materials will also be presented at the exhibition.
In addition, the exhibition includes copies of lists of personnel of partisan brigades operating in the Vitebsk-Surazh zone during the Great Patriotic War, a collection of 17 commemorative coins of the National Bank of Belarus dedicated to the 65th anniversary of Victory, and other materials.
The Memorial Museum of partisan commander of the brigade, Hero of the Soviet Union Minay Filippovich Shmyrev, was opened on July 5, 1969, during the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the German-fascist invaders. It includes four exhibition halls dedicated to various stages of the life of the legendary partisan brigade commander, as well as a park with an area of about 0.5 hectares.
On the territory of the park area, there is a sculptural bust of Minay Shmyrev by the People's Artist of the USSR Zair Azgur, and an oak alley planted by former participants of the partisan movement. In 2010, a partisan glory alley was created here in the form of an open-air exhibition recreation, recreating a partisan camp from the Great Patriotic War.
The museum's collections hold about 9,000 items. The museum building was built at the turn of the 19th-20th centuries.
