May 9, Vitebsk / Olga Bogacheva - BELTA /. An exhibition of Vitebsk artists dedicated to the 67th anniversary of the Great Victory has opened, the Vitebsk Center for Contemporary Art informed a BELTA correspondent.
The exhibition, located in the exhibition hall of the Regional Center's Music Lounge, includes more than 20 paintings and graphic works from different years, including the post-war period. The featured artists (V. Shilko, V. Vitko, G. Kiselev, A. Kovalev, Yu. Zuev, S. Sotnikov, D. Gorolevich) belong to different generations, from war veterans to very young artists.
Created in various techniques and artistic styles, the diverse canvases depict portraits of soldiers and civilians during and after the Great Patriotic War, landscapes of their native land, and also include battle scenes. The themes of the paintings prompt the viewer to reflect on eternal concepts: good and evil, love and suffering, humanism, and the greatness of man as a fighter. The exhibition aims to give the viewer an idea of the diversity of Vitebsk artists, to show their profound respect for the historical memory of the people, their philosophical understanding of the tragedy of the 20th century, as well as to foster an understanding of the inseparable connection between times and generations, and to cultivate a sense of pride in their people who won the Great Patriotic War.
The exhibition is open until May 22. -0-
