The speeches of the candidates for deputy on radio and television will begin on October 20
Speeches of parliamentary candidates on radio and television will begin on October 20, Chairperson of the Central Election Commission of Belarus for Elections and National Referendums Lidiya Yarmoshyna told reporters at the BELTA press center.
"From October 20, they will be held on weekdays. Radio speeches will be from 7:00 to 8:00, television speeches - from 19:00 to 20:00," said Lidiya Yarmoshyna. For candidates running in Minsk, it is planned to allocate airtime on the Belarus 3 channel, for the Minsk region - on STV. Those who will be nominated in the regions will be provided time by regional radio and television companies. Radio speeches will only be on regional state radio stations. In particular, for the Minsk region, this is "Minsk Volna", for Minsk - "Radio Minsk".
As for print media, two central newspapers, "Zvyazda" and "Respublika", are planned for publishing candidate programs. Previously, "Narodnaya Gazeta" was also involved in parliamentary elections. Now it is published only once a week, so it is impossible to ensure the publication of candidate programs in this publication. It is proposed to use the opportunities of regional newspapers - state-owned or with state capital participation, as well as district or city ones.
At the moment, the next CEC meeting is being prepared, which will be held on August 28. It will be dedicated to issues of working with the media during the election campaign. Traditionally, an observation council for information disputes will be formed. The Minister of Information has been proposed a preliminary list of candidates. This body will be headed by the First Deputy Minister of Information Pavel Legkiy.
At the end of August, local authorities must make a decision specifying which places are prohibited for organizing signature collection pickets. Lidiya Yarmoshyna recalled that the procedure is in effect for elections: signatures can be collected everywhere except in places specifically prohibited by local authorities. In addition, a special section concerning the 2019 elections has been opened on the websites of local executive and administrative bodies. The time and place for accepting documents are published there.
