Pig farming in the Vitebsk region is planned to be brought to the proper level in five years – Nikolai Sherstnev (updated)

Вывести свиноводство на должный уровень в Витебской области планируется за пять лет – Николай Шерстнёв (обновлено)

It is planned to bring pig farming to the proper level in the Vitebsk region within five years. This was announced today to journalists by the Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Nikolai Sherstnev, at the opening of the new agricultural enterprise "BelDan".

"The task is to bring the pig farming industry of the Vitebsk region to an absolutely modern level in no more than five years. Moreover, this path should be short and low-cost," the head of the region emphasized.

Building the required number of new complexes, in his opinion, is unlikely due to excessively high costs. "We will take a different path. We need to build several pig breeding farms, reformat existing production, and re-profile it into fattening farms. This way, we will solve a number of veterinary problems and be able to obtain twice as much pork," the governor noted.

Documentation for some projects is practically ready. Financing is in the formation stage. The first step – the opening of the agricultural enterprise "BelDan" – has already been taken.

The Chairman of the Board of the Development Bank of Belarus, Sergei Rumas, congratulated the staff of the enterprise on its full commissioning. He emphasized that the mission of the Development Bank is to finance large innovative projects that can change the economy of Belarus.

The agricultural enterprise for the production of Danish bacon pigs in the Tolochin district is one of these vivid examples. "This enterprise has been operating at full capacity for only six months, but already today it accounts for 8% of the gross pig production in the Vitebsk region. And this is not the limit. As a financing bank, we are satisfied with the progress of this project, we see that all initial business plan indicators are being met, loan servicing is on time, and we have no doubt that this project will be successful for the investor," said Sergei Rumas.

He noted that the Development Bank is actively building enterprises in the agro-industrial complex and industry throughout Belarus. In the Vitebsk region, with its financial support, three new modern dairy farms were opened. The Development Bank also invested funds in the reconstruction of the Glubokoe Condensed Milk Plant, and a number of industrial projects. The largest loan in the Development Bank's portfolio was issued for the reconstruction of OJSC "Naftan". And today we have many projects in progress, the Chairman of the Bank's Board added.
