The castle siege awaits knights at the medieval culture festival "Rubon" in Polotsk
May 18, Minsk / Andrey Asfura - BELTA /. Participants of the medieval culture festival "Rubon", which will be held in Polotsk on May 23-24, will have to take the castle. This was announced in a conversation with a BELTA correspondent by Viktor Ushak, head of the culture department of the Polotsk City Executive Committee.
The improvised castle siege is scheduled for the second day of the festival. This year, the height of the structure, which is rebuilt and dismantled by the event organizers year after year, will be 22 meters. "Every year we raise it by 6 meters, which means taking the castle becomes more and more difficult," the interlocutor rightly noted.
This year, about 350 knights will take part in the festival, which is almost twice as many as last year. Archers and armored warriors will compete in tournaments, and participants of the craft fair will present items made in medieval traditions. In addition, a fire show "Night of Fire" with fire and special effects is planned for the end of the first day. The medieval atmosphere will be enhanced by invited ensembles performing medieval Belarusian music.
According to the organizers' forecasts, about 5,000 people are expected to visit the festival this year. "Every year the authority of 'Rubon' grows, the number of visitors increases, so this time there may not be enough space for everyone who wants to come," the representative of the city executive committee suggested.
The medieval culture festival is aimed at popularizing the land of Polotsk and Belarusian culture. "We see that people are attracted by knightly duels and sketches from medieval life. When you become a participant or guest of the festival, you involuntarily notice that history suddenly comes alive," Viktor Ushak noted. -0-
