Bribes and embezzlement account for over 60% of all corruption crimes in the Vitebsk region
March 10, Vitebsk / Olga Bogacheva - BELTA /. Bribes and embezzlement account for over 60% of all corruption offenses in the Vitebsk region. This was announced today at a round table meeting on combating corruption by the Prosecutor of the Vitebsk region Gennady Dysko, a BELTA correspondent reports.
The second most common crime in this area is forgery.
In total, 527 corruption offenses were detected in the Vitebsk region last year. At the same time, by sectors, the largest number of them is recorded in trade (95), agriculture (69), and industry (60). In public administration, as well as healthcare and social services, 50 and 34 offenses were detected, respectively.
None of the bribe-takers surrendered to law enforcement agencies, while among bribe-givers, the share of those who confessed to the crime was 22.8%. "These are people who gave money to solve their problems and did not achieve the desired result for various reasons. Thus, they primarily wanted to be exempted from criminal liability for their crime," Gennady Dysko noted. In addition, this data indicates the mistaken belief of people that all problems can be solved with money and without the help of law enforcement agencies, the regional prosecutor added.
The event was attended by heads of law enforcement agencies and courts of the region, departments of education, trade and services, ideological work and healthcare of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, public organizations, and the media. -0-
