Straw berehynya will protect the bread fields of Polotsk region

Agricultural enterprises of the Polotsk district decided to revive an ancient custom and are installing straw guardians in the fields, the ideological work department of the Polotsk District Executive Committee told a BELTA correspondent. Almost all ancient Slavic pagan goddesses were somehow connected with the earth. Whether it was Roda with Rozhanitsy, who promoted the fertility of the land and the fruitfulness of the lineage, or Makosh - the goddess of the earth, of the harvest, in whose memory we still say "mother earth". It was decided to pay tribute to these kind patronesses of the earth in Polotsk region by erecting huge straw dolls on the edge of the grain fields. It is worth noting that the grain growers, like their ancestors, hoping for the help of the gods, rely only on their own strength. In the current difficult year for farmers, they harvested 30.1 thousand tons of grain. They continue to harvest millet, buckwheat, and corn. The corn yield is 315.4 c/ha - this is the highest indicator in the region. Sowing of winter cereals is underway on a large scale. -0-
