Vitebsk region grain harvest exceeds one million mark

Grain growers of the Vitebsk region have threshed 1 million tons of grain, the Agriculture and Food Committee of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee informed a BELTA correspondent. The significant milestone for the region was overcome today despite difficult weather conditions. As of August 16, 64% of the areas to be harvested have been cleared in the region, with over 1 million tons of grain threshed at an average yield of 32 centners per hectare. The harvesting campaign is progressing most actively in Gluboksky, Dokshitsky, Lepelsky, and Chashniksky districts, where over 70% of the areas have been cleared. The highest yield this year is noted in Verkhnedvinsky, Orshansky, and Chashniksky districts. More than 2,000 harvesters and over 3,000 transport units work daily in the region's grain fields. Work is in full swing at 780 grain drying and processing facilities. The result and quality of the harvest are achieved thanks to targeted work to improve farming practices and soil fertility, and the implementation of the regional program "Clean Fields," the regional agricultural department emphasized. -0-
