April 8, Minsk /BELTA/. The National Academic Choir of the Republic of Belarus named after G. Tsitovich will perform on April 9 in Polotsk, the cultural capital of Belarus in 2010. The program of the performance is timed to coincide with the Easter holidays. The concert of the renowned ensemble will also be held this evening at the city's House of Culture. From January to March, the city hosted performances by soloists of the National Academic Grand Opera and Ballet Theatre of Belarus with the program "Evening of Ancient Romance," the National Concert Orchestra under the baton of Mikhail Finberg, the Belarusian State Ensemble "Pesniary," and Konstantin Sharov, a soloist of the Belarusian State Philharmonic (organ). The exhibition hall of the Polotsk Art Gallery featured exhibitions of lithographs "Napoleon Orda and Our Past" from the collections of the National Historical Museum, and "Polish Fine Arts of the 18th-20th Centuries" from the collections of the National Art Museum. In turn, the National Art Museum of Belarus hosted an exhibition of paintings and graphics by Yadviga Matievskaya, the great-granddaughter of Ivan Khrutsky (dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the artist's birth), from the collections of the Polotsk Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve. Throughout the year, concerts by the best Belarusian soloists and ensembles, the program "Masterpieces of Opera Art within the Walls of Ancient Sophia," and exhibitions of works by Ivan Khrutsky and books by Francysk Skaryna are planned. Polotsk will also host paintings by artists from Russia, Lithuania, Greece, and Germany. In May, the opening of a monument to the heroes of the War of 1812 is planned. The republican campaign "Cultural Capital of 2010" was launched on January 21. Ancient Polotsk initiated a good tradition. The project was initiated by the Ministry of Culture of Belarus. It is carried out with the aim of supporting the cultural life of the regions. Throughout the year, small towns designated as cultural capitals will become venues for concerts by ensembles and artists, and will provide halls for art exhibitions. This project will give Belarusians the opportunity to engage with cultural values and the best examples of art. -0-
