April 5, Vitebsk / Sergei Kochetov - BELTA /. Farms in five districts of the Vitebsk region have started sowing spring crops, the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee's Agriculture and Food Department told BELTA.
As of April 5, a total of 180 hectares have been sown with early spring crops. Farms in Beshenkovichi, Dokshitsy, Lepel, Orsha, and Chashniki districts have begun sowing. This year, the grain acreage in the region will increase by 100,000 hectares compared to 2009, reaching about 458,000 hectares, including about 200,000 hectares allocated for winter crops.
Currently, farms are actively applying nitrogen fertilizers, including top-dressing rapeseed and early pastures on an area of about 30,000 hectares. A total of about 90,000 tons of active ingredient of nitrogen fertilizers are planned to be applied. So far, the region's farms' needs for this type of fertilizer have been met by 36%. Nevertheless, all issues related to fertilizer imports have been resolved, and in the near future, farmers will be fully supplied with nitrogen fertilizers at a level not lower than last year. -0-
