Farms in the Vitebsk region plan to start mass sowing of winter cereals in the third decade of August
August 16, Vitebsk / Sergey Kochetov - BELTA /. Farms in the Vitebsk region plan to start mass sowing of winter grain crops in the third decade of August, the Agriculture and Food Committee of the regional executive committee informed a BELTA correspondent.
In 2011, it is planned to increase the grain acreage in the region to 500 thousand hectares, of which about 250 thousand hectares are allocated for winter crops. Today, the districts have created the necessary seed stock of about 57 thousand tons, stubble plowing is underway, and fertilizers are being applied. Farms are accumulating plant protection products, and their needs will be fully met by the beginning of sowing. In addition, taking into account the allocated quotas from Gomel Chemical Plant OJSC, farms are provided with 40% of phosphate fertilizers, so the fertilizer problem will be solved by importing about 25 thousand tons of physical weight of ammophos from Russian manufacturers who won the tender for the supply of this type of fertilizer.
The committee noted that this year's sowing campaign will take place in favorable conditions, as the region has completed the grain harvest before the start of winter sowing for the first time. In addition, the sowing of winter rapeseed on an area of 86 thousand hectares is actively underway, and these works are also planned to be completed by the beginning of mass sowing of winter grain crops.
It is planned to complete the mass sowing of winter grains in the region by September 25. -0-
