Farms in the Vitebsk region have exceeded last year's volume for fodder procurement by almost a quarter

October 19, Vitebsk / Sergey Kochetov - BELTA /. Farms in the Vitebsk region have harvested over 1.1 million tons of feed units of grass forage, which is 23% more than the same indicator last year. This was reported to a BELTA correspondent by Nikolai Olenich, Deputy Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee's Agriculture and Food Committee. Per conventional head of the public herd, there are 24 centners of feed units, which is 4.5 centners more than in the same period last year. The region's farms have fulfilled the plan for silage, with almost 2.2 million tons harvested. Over 1.7 million tons of silage and more than 190 thousand tons of hay have also been harvested. This is a significant indicator; the additional volume of 4 centners of feed units actually allows for the stall period of the entire public herd of the region to be extended by more than a month, the interlocutor noted. A good corn harvest grown in the region this year contributed significantly to this. The yield of this forage crop was 257 centners per hectare, which is 66 centners per hectare higher than last year's figure. Almost 1.2 million tons of corn silage have been harvested, exceeding last year's figure by 400 thousand tons. Farms are continuing to harvest corn, with about 16 thousand hectares, or 20% of the total area of this forage crop, remaining to be harvested. -0-
