Farms in the Vitebsk region have begun the mass sowing of winter cereals

Farms in the Vitebsk region have begun the mass sowing of winter grains, the Agriculture and Food Committee of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee informed a BELTA correspondent. As of the morning of August 31, winter grains have been sown in the region over an area of 25,000 hectares, or 10% of the plan. 135,000 hectares have been plowed for sowing (55% of the planned area). Active work is underway to apply glyphosate and phosphate fertilizers, with 40% of the latter already stocked in the region. The remaining amount will be supplied by Russian producers in the near future. Soil plowing in the region is to be completed by September 10, and sowing by September 20. To meet the planned deadlines, the daily volume of work performed must reach 11-12 thousand hectares per day, which is 4-5% of the task. Over the past day, the increase was 1%, so farmers are now making every effort to increase the pace of work, specialists noted, adding that weather conditions are also favorable for this. In 2011, it is planned to increase the grain acreage in the region to 500,000 hectares, of which about 250,000 hectares are allocated for winter crops. 48%, or 120,000 hectares, of these will be wheat, 30% will be rye, and 20% will be triticale.
