July 19, Vitebsk / Sergey Kotovets - BELTA/. Farms in two districts of the Vitebsk region have started harvesting early potatoes, the Agriculture and Food Committee of the Regional Executive Committee informed a BELTA correspondent.
RUP "Tolochin Cannery" and SPK "Kolkhoz "Olgovskoye" of the Vitebsk district, which are the largest potato-specializing farms in the region, have begun work in the potato field. Thus, the cannery has expanded its potato field by 24% this year to 620 hectares, of which about 200 hectares are planted with early varieties of this crop. In total, potatoes have been planted on an area of 7.5 thousand hectares in the region. In addition, individual farms have started harvesting early cabbage and digging beets, for which approximately 350 hectares and over 300 hectares, respectively, have been allocated.
This week, mass harvesting of grain and leguminous crops is planned to begin in the region.
As of July 19, almost 5.5 thousand hectares of land have been mown, and about 17.5 thousand tons of grain have been threshed with an average yield of 32 centners per hectare. Winter rapeseed has been harvested from an area of almost 2.4 thousand hectares, with about 3 thousand tons threshed at an average yield of 12.5 centners per hectare.
Farms in the region have prepared about 711 thousand tons of fodder units, and the provision of fodder per conventional head of cattle is 15.3 centners of fodder units.
Fieldwork also continues to prepare for sowing winter crops for the 2012 harvest. Thus, about 11.5 thousand hectares of soil have been plowed for winter rapeseed, or 23% of the plan, and glyphosate has been applied to over 31 thousand hectares for sowing winter crops, which is 15.6% of the target.-0-
