Farms in the Vitebsk region have begun selective harvesting of grass feed
May 21, Vitebsk / Olga Bogacheva - BELTA /. Farms in the Vitebsk region have begun selective harvesting of grass forage, the Agriculture and Food Committee of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee informed a BELTA correspondent.
Agrarians of Vitebsk, Orsha, Tolochin, Senno, Dubrovno, Lepel and Dokshytsy districts were the first to start this work. From next week, other districts are expected to join the forage harvesting en masse.
In total, in 2010, the region is to harvest 1 million 250 thousand tons of grass forage, or 110% of last year's level, at least 2.2 million tons of silage, and 2 million tons of haylage. It is planned to harvest at least 26 centners of feed units per conventional head of public herd. To successfully cope with this task, active preparation of forage harvesting equipment and forage storage facilities is already underway.
As for the sowing campaign, according to data as of May 21, spring crops in the region have been sown on 330 thousand hectares, which is 85% of the target. Sowing is fully completed in Orsha, Chashniki, Liozno and Dubrovno districts. Due to heavy soil over-moistening, Sharkovshchina, Postavy, Senno and Vitebsk districts are lagging behind the leaders. -0-
