Farms in the Vitebsk region are completing the harvesting of fodder corn

September 22, Vitebsk / Sergey Kochetov - BELTA /. Farms in the Vitebsk region have harvested fodder corn on an area of over 70 thousand hectares, or almost 87% of the plan, the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee's Agriculture and Food Department told a BELTA correspondent. As of September 22, about 1.7 million tons of green mass have been harvested, with an average yield of 241 centners per hectare. In Beshenkovichi, Gorodok, Dubrovno, Liozno, Polotsk, and Rossony districts, fodder corn has been completely harvested, and farms in five more districts have less than 10% of the areas allocated for this crop left to mow. In total, over 1.06 million tons of fodder units of grass forage have been harvested in the region, which is 120% compared to the same period in 2009. Per conventional head of public herd, there are over 23 centners of fodder units, which is almost 3.6 centners more than in the same period last year. Farms have harvested over 2.3 million tons of haylage, about 1.4 million tons of silage, including almost 1.3 million tons of corn silage, as well as over 190 thousand tons of hay. Per conventional head of public herd, farms need to harvest at least 25 centners of fodder units, which will allow for optimal winter stall period and ensure the fulfillment of forecast indicators for the growth of major types of livestock products, the department noted. Sowing of winter cereals is nearing completion in the region, covering almost 186 thousand hectares, or over 74% of the target. Farms have completely sown winter wheat, for which about 115 thousand hectares are allocated, and triticale (about 21 thousand hectares), and now winter rye sowing is mainly underway. -0-
