Farms in the Vitebsk region are completing the grain harvest
September 3, Vitebsk / Olga Bogacheva - BELTA /. Farms in the Vitebsk region are completing the harvesting of grain crops, the head of the department of land cultivation, crop production and fodder production of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee's agriculture and food committee, Alexey Turkov, told a BELTA correspondent.
As of September 3, 450.8 thousand hectares of grain and leguminous crops have been mowed in the region, or 96.7% of the area. Agricultural workers in the Gluboksky and Orshansky districts have fully coped with this front of work. The Verkhnedvinsky, Gorodoksky, Dokshitsky, Lepelsky, Miorsky, Postavsky, Sennensky, Tolochinsky and Chashniksky districts have practically completely finished harvesting. In the remaining regions, there are insignificant areas, mainly of leguminous crops.
The harvest of Vitebsk region agrarians this year amounted to more than 1.3 million tons of grain with an average yield of 28.9 centners per hectare, which slightly exceeds last year's level. At the same time, the weather seriously affected the volume of the harvest in the northernmost region of the country: cold and dry periods at the beginning of the plant growth vegetation period and regular rains during the harvesting campaign.
Currently, other agricultural work is underway in the region: corn harvesting, second cutting of grasses, and buckwheat as it ripens are in progress. September will also be a busy month for agricultural workers. -0-
