Farms in the Vitebsk region have completed the mass harvesting of grain, exceeding the threshing result of 2008, the Agriculture and Food Committee of the regional executive committee informed a BELTA correspondent. According to data as of the morning of September 3, grain and leguminous crops have been mowed on an area of 350.5 thousand hectares, which is almost 100% of the harvesting area. The grain yield in agricultural organizations amounted to 1 million 127.4 thousand tons, which is 8 thousand tons higher than last year's result. The largest contribution to the regional harvest was made by the grain growers of the Orsha district, who threshed 112.8 thousand tons. Farms in two districts achieved an average yield of more than 40 centners per hectare - Orsha (43 centners per hectare) and Verkhnedvinsk (41.5 centners per hectare), while the overall indicator for the region was 32.3 centners per hectare. In addition, the region fulfilled the state order (163.5 thousand tons) for grain supplies for republican needs. Today, the region has begun the mass sowing of winter grain crops. These crops have already been sown on 47 thousand hectares, which is almost a quarter of the region's winter sowing area. In addition, farms are beginning to harvest potatoes and vegetable crops. -0-
