The art exhibition launched a series of events dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Vitebsk region
The exhibition features over fifty landscape and graphic works from the museum's collection. Some of them were purchased, but most were donated by the artists. By the way, the entire collection comprises over 1.5 thousand paintings and 8 thousand graphic sheets.
As explained by the exhibition organizers, its concept is to showcase the beauty of the lake region. The exhibition primarily features landscapes depicting picturesque places of the Vitebsk region and architectural landmarks. This is not a snapshot of a specific period in the region's life, which might be more concretely conveyed by sketches of industrial facilities, urban and rural genre scenes, and portraits. The emphasis is on timeless values and eternal themes that have inspired and continue to inspire many artists to create works of art.
Among the artists are such masters as People's Artist of Belarus Leonid Shchemelev, Petr Yavich, Ivan Stolyarov, Anton Korzhenevsky, Gennady Shutov, Felix Gumen, and others, as well as contemporary painters and graphic artists. The exhibition showcases both realistic and abstract styles. The time span of the presented works ranges from the 1950s of the last century to 2016.
Gennady Egorov, Head of the Main Department of Ideological Work, Culture, and Youth Affairs of the Regional Executive Committee, who spoke at the opening of the exhibition, noted that it has become an artistic prelude to a series of events dedicated to the anniversary, which will take place in early February.
These include honoring the most distinguished people of the Vitebsk region, presenting the region's achievements over 80 years, and a grand concert featuring the best artistic groups and performers.
