An art and expert council for monumental and decorative art has been established in the Vitebsk region
June 11, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. An art and expert council for monumental and monumental-decorative art has been established in the Vitebsk region, Nina Suletskaya, chief specialist of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee's Culture Department, told a BELTA correspondent.
The council will operate on a permanent basis. Its main task will be to develop practical recommendations and consider issues related to the design, creation, and reconstruction of monuments, memorial sculptures, sculptures, and other examples of monumental-decorative art. The council's competence will include issuing expert opinions on draft designs, recommendations for author remuneration, acceptance of works of monumental art in the Vitebsk region, as well as other issues. The council includes art critics, sculptors, and architects who are members of the Belarusian Union of Artists and the Belarusian Union of Architects.
As Nina Suletskaya noted, the commendable desire to decorate the territories of cities and villages with sculptures sometimes results in the creation of works that are far from art. The art and expert council is precisely intended to prevent such cases. Although the council has just been established, it has already approved the draft design for a monument to the architect John in Polotsk and has provided recommendations to some parishes on tidying up sculptural representations on church grounds. -0-
