In the 16 days of August, 30 temperature records were broken in the Vitebsk region
August 17, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. In 16 days of August, 30 temperature records were broken in the Vitebsk region, the Vitebsk Regional Center for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring ("Vitebskoblgidromet") informed a BELTA correspondent.
Amendments to the rating of the hottest days, nights, and 24-hour periods began to be made on August 4. During this time, 11 average daily records, 11 maximum temperature records, and 8 night temperature records were surpassed. Night temperatures exceeded previous indicators by 2-8 degrees and ranged from 20-26 degrees. The absolute maximum temperature for August in the city of Vitebsk was updated, exceeding 38 degrees on August 8. Finally, for the region as a whole, the highest temperature for the entire period of meteorological observations was recorded at 37.8 degrees, which is 3.2 degrees higher than the maximum recorded in 1992.
Meteorologists do not rule out the possibility that the hot August of 2010 will go down in history with its highest average monthly temperature, pushing August 1938, when it was 20.8 degrees, to second place.
In June 2010, only 3 temperature records were broken in the region, and only night records at that. In July, there were already 11: 3 average daily, 4 daytime, and 4 night records. -0-
