The incidence of acute respiratory infections in the Vitebsk region is decreasing

In the Vitebsk region, there is a positive trend in the reduction of acute respiratory infections incidence, as reported by Mikhail Vishnevetsky, Head of the Main Department for Healthcare of the Regional Executive Committee, at a meeting of the regional headquarters for combating the spread of coronavirus and protecting the population.

"The incidence of acute respiratory infections in the Vitebsk region continues to show a positive trend towards reduction. The only exception is the Braslav district. Adults account for 68% of those infected, and children for 32%," noted Mikhail Vishnevetsky.

According to him, over the past two days, the number of coronavirus infection cases in the region has increased. However, over the weekend, this growth was half of what it was in the preceding days. "The number of infected people will still increase, but this allows healthcare professionals to redistribute their efforts," said Mikhail Vishnevetsky.

The head of the regional healthcare department assured that there are sufficient medicines, disinfectants, and personal protective equipment in healthcare institutions. Training sessions are being held with medical staff to minimize infection cases among medics.

Anzhelika Nikitina, Chairperson of the Economics Committee of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, stated that the rush to buy masks has subsided. "As of today, these products are sufficiently available in pharmacies. Enterprises continue to produce masks, gowns, and protective suits," she added.

Residents of the region are providing assistance to equip medical workers, and sponsorship is being received. The region will also receive protective equipment sent to Belarus from other countries as humanitarian aid.
