All districts of the Vitebsk region are engaged in the preparation of fodder crops
All districts of the Vitebsk region are carrying out the harvesting of fodder crops, the Vitebsk Oblast Executive Committee's Agriculture and Food Committee informed a BELTA correspondent.
Farms are harvesting hay and haylage, and will soon begin ensiling. Feed packaging in polymer film is being carried out at OJSC "Rudakovo" and some farms in the Lepel district. In total, 12 thousand hectares of grass have been mowed in the region, which is 5% of the total area. The agricultural producers of the Tolochin and Dubrovno districts are leading the green harvest. Here, grass has been mowed on 13% and 10% of the areas, respectively.
"Farms are fully equipped with machinery and fuel. The pace of work is hampered by rains. Due to bad weather, agricultural producers cannot carry out full-scale fodder harvesting. The mowed grass is mainly in windrows. Only 100 tons of hay and 25 thousand tons of haylage have been stored," specialists noted.
In total, in the region, it is necessary to harvest grass on an area of 240 thousand hectares with the first mowing and to harvest 16 centners of fodder units per conventional head of cattle. The harvesting of fodder crops of the first mowing in the region is planned to be completed by June 20.
