Courtroom and forensic laboratory. The first educational, scientific, and practical center for training lawyers in Belarus has been established at PSU.
His activities will give new impetus to improving the quality of training. The grand opening of the center gathered numerous representatives of law enforcement agencies, local authorities, and public administration. First, an excursion was organized for them to the buildings of the Faculty of Law of PSU, which recently moved to a new location in the village of Mezherechye. Guests from Minsk, Vitebsk, and Novgorod were pleasantly surprised by the conditions created for the education of future lawyers. Over 20 classrooms, a unique courtroom, and a forensics laboratory, modern computer classes, as well as separate rooms for conferences, negotiations, and meetings, arbitration, and student legal aid services have been provided for students and faculty. It is on this multifunctional material base that the legal center will operate, which will become a platform for cooperation among all interested parties.
– Today, the professional training of legal specialists can only be improved in close cooperation with employers, – noted the rector of Polotsk State University, Dmitry Lazovsky.
– I am convinced that thanks to such centers, we will be able to align theory with practice, – agreed with the head of the university, the Chairman of the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Belarus, Major General of Justice Ivan Noskevich. – When students are offered new knowledge with a modern base and access to advanced information resources, it is a guarantee that they will be better prepared for the work process.
As part of the solemn events, a "round table" was held where issues of the state and prospects for the development of legal education were discussed. The main problem identified was the insufficient practical orientation of the training of future lawyers. The Director of the National Center for Legal Information of the General Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Belarus, Doctor of Law Vladimir Khomich, proposed adopting foreign experience. The most successful reform of legal education was carried out in Germany, where significant attention was paid to the social orientation of university graduates.
After the discussion, the participants of the "round table" concluded a multi-partyan earlier cooperation agreement in the field of education, science, and practice.
– We are open to new ideas and will try to implement all interesting proposals, – promised the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Irina Vegera.
