A weightlifting hall has opened at the agricultural college in Horadok
It is symbolic that this event took place on the eve of Defender of the Fatherland Day. As noted by the college director Vladimir Shitko, the college's task is not only to train good specialists for the agricultural sector but also to graduate physically strong individuals, true men.
– The state needs a healthy nation; the leaders of the country and the region set an example of a healthy lifestyle. Most of our students are male. They must be strong in all senses of the word, – believes Vladimir Shitko.
Great attention is paid to the development of sports in the college. Over the past three years, a considerable amount of funds earned by the educational institution itself has been invested in the development of its material and technical base. For example, the main sports hall has been renovated, a wrestling hall has been opened in the dormitory, tennis and billiards tables have been installed, and new skis have been purchased. Now, the weightlifting hall has been added to this list.
It was equipped in a former utility room. It was cleaned, renovated, a platform was installed, and a rack, professional barbells, and kettlebells were purchased. There are many who wish to train here. This can be judged by the number of participants in the competitions, which were held in groups, and the final took place on the day the hall was opened. By the way, the best athletes in the college are recognized not only with certificates but also with cash prizes.
In the hall in front of the sports hall, the cups won by the students are displayed in a prominent place, and portraits of those who have worthily defended the honor of the educational institution in various tournaments hang there. The coaches are proud to have trained two masters and five candidates for master of sports in Eastern martial arts. Those who wish can prove themselves in 16 sections. There is an agreement with the trade union sports school that a weightlifting coach will work at the college.
An international volleyball championship will be held here in March.
– We have signed cooperation agreements with agricultural educational institutions from Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, and Russia. All of them will field their teams. So, sports open up our country to young people, – explains Vladimir Shitko.
The director also adds that Gorodok College does not intend to rest on its laurels. Two rooms have already been selected in the academic building to be equipped as gyms. One is planned to open by the start of the new academic year, the second – by January 2020.
Future agricultural specialists will also take part in the "Vitebsk Ski Track". They have already started in the "Gorodok Ski Track", testing new skis. The mentor for this sport is worthy: Alexey Maksimov is a skier-biathlete, who once trained at the Olympic reserve school with Pyeongchang champion Irina Krivko.
– So that students do not develop bad habits, which often happens in the youth environment, they need not only to be educated but also to be offered an alternative. Sports are the best option in this matter for boys who need to expend energy on something, – believes the college director.
